Today all Democrats have, in their hearts, lowered the flag to half-mast. One of our own has passed on, and she leaves a void that will not be easily filled. Ann Richards is gone.
Ann Richards was the quickest wit in the west, and boy could she turn a phrase! Remember her at the Democratic Convention in 1988? "After all these years of George Herbert Walker Bush, I thought y'all needed to hear what a real Texas accent sounds like." and who can ever forget "Poor George. He caint help it. He was born with a silver foot in his mouth."
She didn't want to be remembered for keeping a good house. She wanted to be remembered for making politics accessible to everyone. Toward that end, she made great strides, and I for one will always remember her fondly for showing us all that a "womans place was in the dome."
Rest in peace, Ann. Thanks for showing us the way.
