It was just Monday night that President Bush took to the airwaves, politicized a crime against humanity, whipped the flames of partisan fear-mongering into a crown fire, repeatedly quoting bin Laden throughout the entire speech. The underlying message that was supposed to serve as a unifying theme? "Be Afraid!!! Be Very Afraid!!!" (After all, there are a couple thousand really warped individuals out there who want you dead!!!)
Now he is off the priority-list. Again. This time you could almost hear the eraser rubbing, it happened so fast.
Could it be that the sheeple looked up for a sec? Dare I be so hopeful? Dare I believe it possible that people are starting to smell the bullshit this administration has been peddling for five years now?
The folly of Iraq is becoming undeniable to all but a few dead-enders, most of whom still believe, in spite off all evidence to the contrary, that Saddam had something to do with the towers coming down. Please. Moonbat conspiracy theories are more founded in fact and reason than that one. Bushie himself had to cowboy up and say there was no connection, in front of the entire world and Katie Couric while the cameras rolled and her hair jiggled. The Sith Lord, Dick Dangerous even admitted it to Tim Russert, if you will.
Saddam Hussein was a feckless thug, and he spawned a couple more. He was nobody's idea of a humanitarian and he certainly was not under consideration for a Nobel Peace Prize, and I'm comfortable saying that nobody misses Uday and Qsay very much. But he was not a threat to us. He was contained within his borders. He not only had no ties to terrorist groups, he rejected overtures they made toward him and actively sought the arrest of Zarqawi. He had no WMD, and never tried to buy yellowcake uranium nor aluminum centrifuge tubes. (I know a wee bit about nuclear physics, and suffice it to say that uranium enrichment is no mean feat. But cascading centrifuges are the kind of way-cool toy that makes a geeky chick like me get all weak in the knees.) If he had nuclear aspirations, they were 99.9% inspiration.
And the dispatches from Washington are increasingly incongruous, to the point they are sounding schizophrenic.
"What the fuck? Over." if I may borrow a phrase from my favorite flyboy. Which is it? Are we supposed to be afraid, or nonchalant? Are we on the hunt for terrorists, or are we playing skittles?
You guys were the ones who made it black-or-white, so don't all of a sudden try to tell me gray is the doyennes choice for fall.
