This is it

When I see these faces, I admit to a visceral reaction; kinda like I get when I see a snake. I want them to be placed in check because they are damaging my country and if we don't stanch the bleeding now, there may not be a country to save come 2008. (another graphic courtesy of Doc Larry. Hat tip and crisp salute to you, Sir, for all the graphics you have been kind enough to share the last couple of weeks.) This sign was spotted in Springfield, MO - no bastion of liberalism. So c'mon those of you in the rest of Missouri - lets help our brothers and sisters mount a comeback in southwest Missouri. It looks like the seeds have been planted for a grassroots open rebellion against the assumed. What can I do to help you guys? Big hat-tip to Granny Geek for leaving that sign laying around where I could co-opt it.

The over-due end of the era of the "values voter"

It appears that the curtain is about to fall on the tragicomedy that is the modern "values voter." It ran almost as long as Cats.

That was always a supremely insulting little meme. Like I have no values because I don't see how my marriage would be threatened if my Uncle Billy could finally make an honest woman out of Aunt Richard.

Those values voters brought us this mess, thank you very much. Now one more time the liberal and pragmatic among us will have to clean up the mess - again - that has been created by these hypocritical jack-offs.

Turns out that now those values that ruled the day in 2004 have caused voters to rue today. Real people are more concerned about the lapses of securrity (where is Osama again? how 'bout those WMD's?) and the false positive that is the economy.

Real Americans are concerned about two wars being lost, and one of them was optional - and it turns out it was a bonehead move. Which by the way we tried to point out from the get-go it would be, and we were shouted down and called unpatriotic for daring to doubt. Real Americans are not feeling safer because we are fighting in Iraq. Real Americans are heartbroken over the sacrifices our troops have made for an unworthy effort that was predicated on lies.

It is hard to take a party serious on values when one of their incumbents is running on a platform of "yes I had an affair but I didn't beat my mistress" and a former insider in the office of Faith Based Initiatives has released a book painting the administration as downright craven to the very values voters who put them in their positions of power.

It turns out that when voters are asked about what matters to them, "values" now ranks sixth, down from first. No one is even mentioning removing evolution from science standards any more. But I am a veteran of multilpe Kansas State Board of Education fights. Those of us on the side of science always win in the end, but the IDer's, as they are calling themselves now, are a persistent lot. They will be back, I have no doubt.

Now the values crowd gets it's rude awakening.

Well good. About time. Bastards. How do you like it? Well, we didn't either. So suck it up.

We are more than a little bit pissed that for the better part of two decades, we were not good Americans because we didn't think it was our place to go 'round telling everyone else how they needed to be living, or else they were just plain wrong. We are still rather miffed that we were painted with the broad brush of hedonism (mislabeled humanism) but we are the ones with the happier and healthier marriages. We get fewer divorces and have fewer children living in poverty.

We are angry that the ACLU - which exists to fight for the Constitution, not against Christianity - has been demonized when they are the good guys for crying out loud. We are angry that we have been castigated and our patriotism questioned because we cleaved to the Constitution of the United States rather than the platform of any political party.

We are a little bit steamed that every child born enters life in debt because our government doesn't believe it should pay as it goes, and at you calling us graverobbers for protesting repeal of the inheritance tax. Death tax my ass. What about the Birth Tax?

Run that commercial. Everyone is oohing and aahing over the newborn the day he comes home, and the doorbell rings. It is an IRS agent handing the newborn a bill for $30,000 - his share of the national debt. Yet you "death taxers" want to give Paris Hilton a tax cut! Feh!

Well, now it turns out that when the rubber meets the road, values are relative after all. It seems we are more willing to accept our neighbors differences when the real issues, the ones we have in common, rush to the fore. Who would have thunk it possible?

Oh yes, now I remember who woulda thunk it - it was us.
