Yesterday my husband resigned his membership in the VFW when that organization endorsed Peter Roskam (who has never served a day in uniform) over Major Tammy Duckworth, who lost both legs in combat when the Black Hawk helicopter she was piloting was hit by a rocket propelled grenade in Iraq. Since we live ten blocks from the national headquarters of that organization, he walked in and quit his membership in person and told them precisely why.
Roskam has been insensitive and insulting, saying Major Duckworth wants to "cut and run" - and in the process illustrating just how ignorant he is on matters military. Occupiers do not cut and run, they do not have that option. Occupying forces simply withdraw. (And they always do, eventually).
Yet the Veterans of Foreign Wars passed over one of their own.
That's real "Band of Brothers" thinking there. Emphasis on "Brothers."
