Cheney at Fort Campbell

Vice had a captive audience today, in the form of a group of soldiers from the 101st Airborn when he appeared at Ft. Campbell, KY. Soldiers stood in an icy drizzle rubbing their hands together and stamping their feet to keep warm. They cheered his appearance onstage but mostly kept quiet when he stated the administrations determination to "stay the course" and reiterated the administrations refusal to set a timetable for withdrawal.

Of course soldiers in uniform can't be openly hostile - but they can be stonily silent. And they were.

Other Priorities had deigned to grace the troops with his presence on the base while playing politics, popping in to award a Flying Cross to a helicopter pilot injured in Iraq; but his real reason in visiting Kentucky today was a fundraiser in Louisville for Publican congress-critter Geoff Davis; and Kentucky Republicans in general.
