Thanks to reader opit for the phrase. Use it, because it is what we have come to. We are, as a nation no better than the regimes our fathers and grandfathers defeated. Who will fight for our liberty this time? Who will speak for the liberties and principles that were murdered this day in the United States Senate? We can not count on the staid senate any longer. They used to be sane and deliberative, not given to hysteria and hystrionics. I can't imagine Jack Danforth standing for this. Or Howard Baker. Or Nancy Kassebaum. Or John Heinz. Or Bob Dole. Hell, Bob Packwood wouldn't have tolerated this, and Barry Goldwater is spinning in his grave, you know he is.
Where, oh where, is a Sam Nunn when we need him? I remember when Sam was there - fondly - He would lead the Democrats and unite them and in that charming way he had get the mother fucking votes together to hold a fillibuster on the bill that terminated the American experiment!!!
Instead we have the "Dirty Dozen Democrats" -Carper (DE), Johnson (SD), Lieberman (CT), Landrieu (LA), Lautenberg (NJ), Menendez (NJ), Nelson (FL), Nelson (NE), Pryor (AR), Rockefeller (WV), Salazar (CO), and Stabenow (MI).
Contact them and tell them to get the hell out of our party. I for one want nothing to do with any of them. I wouldn't piss on them if they were on fire, so angry am I right now. If the Democrats had held firm and mounted a fillibuster, the soul of America could have been saved.
Instead that grand experiment is over.
