Once more, Karl Rove has gone to the terror well, attempting to hold the shaky majority the Republicans hold in both houses of congress, by scaring the hell out of the American people.
Really, Mr. Rove's words ring hollow. He is himself being investigated in regard to the Valerie Plame affair, don't forget. This was not mentioned when he spoke to a group of Republicans on Friday night.
Instead it was the trite-and true...Attacking Democrats for defending the Constitution and the Civil liberties of all Americans. The presidents eavesdropping program was defended and Democrats were painted as traitors for opposing blanket warrantless wiretaps. Democrats were demonized for not rubberstamping every tweak the president wants to make to the judiciary, and of course, Democrats are soft on terrorism. (Remember last summer when he said in a speech that after 9/11 "Democrats wanted to offer the the terrorists therapy and understanding." That story died too young a death, but some of us are still pissed.)
Really, it was more of the same, and I am not going to bother to regurgitate the finer points here. You can read the entire NY Times article by clicking the first link if you are so inclined. But I am paying attention to what I hear other people say. The terror well has run dry, folks. We have come to the point where the fluctuations in the color code have become a joke, and if an attack were to happen, a lot of people would blame the administration because they have failed to bring in Osama bin Laden, they invaded a sovereign nation under the guise of fighting terror and failed to properly prosecute both wars that they saw fit to involve us in, and now the United States has no resources to deal with the very real threats posed by North Korea and Iran. Excellent.
Communism may be dead, but don't I hear Kruschev laughing from the grave?
