Kansas Attacks Science

I oppose the science standards proposed by the Kansas State Board of Education because they would single out evolution as a controversial theory and change the definition of science itself so that it is not restricted to the study of natural phenomena.

This violates science to it's very essence. Science should be limited to observable phenomena and duplicable experimentation. Period. Anything else and it ceases to be science.

But the board holds a 6-4 majority, and the changes will go into effect in November. Kansas will be a laughing stock, and the graduates of Kansas high schools will be suspect at institutions of higher learning in other states to which they might apply for admission to colleges.

I have attended two different Kansas Regents Universities during my life, and studied science at both, and feel that the students will most likely be ill-served at Kansas Regents Universities as well. The current evolution display at the University of Kansas Museum of Natural History is timely indeed.
