Remember what Jefferson Said about Newspapers?

Sometimes I get surprised, I come across a small local newspaper from somewhere I have never been, but thank those secular scientists and engineers for the internet, I can find independent newspapers on-line. Sometimes, like today, I read a column and think "Damn! I wish someone at the Kansas City Star would take a stand like that!" But of course that's a pipedream. Knight Ridder owns it, so forget any news that isn't either canned or bland.

This Column from the Decatur Daily Democrat lays it out pretty well.

Personally, I feel the tide turning. People are getting more and more rattled. Fourteen dead Marines in one fell swoop kinda put the brakes on the war wagon. That mother outside the ranch demanding he come out and talk to her isn't helping him, much either.

I hope fervently that "his come-upance is coming."

Things ain't looking too good in the Plame-Gate affair either. Scooter Libby and Judith Miller were together two days after the Wilson Column appeared, and remember, as much as I love a free press, I am not shedding tears that Judith Miller is cooling her heels in a cell right now. She was the Chalabi-cheerleader, remember? She's damn near as implicit in our involvement in Iraq as George Bush and Dick Cheney are.

Iraq had nothing to do with 9/11, it had no WMD's, and it didn't try to buy uranium from Niger. These were all lies, and they have gotten people killed, including 1825 Americans and countless Iraqi's. When someone had the audacity to proclaim that these guys weren't shooting strait, his wife, a WMD expert with the CIA, had her cover blown. That's akin to treason, espeially if done for the reasons apparently held. It's looking more and more like a "duck" every day.

The jig is up on this fools errand. It's time someone devised a doable and sensible draw-down. Insurgents are sewn like dragons teeth, for every one killed or captured, there are three to five to take his place. The Shi'ites hate the Sunni's, the Sunni's hate the Shi'ites, they both hate the Kurds who don't trust anyone, even other Kurds. The only thing all three groups have in common is they all hate the American's and want us to leave. They will kill and maim us until we go.

I've posed this question before: What would you do if it was happening here? If our country was invaded and occupied? I know what I would do. I would turn into an insurgent in about three seconds, and I would fight until the last breath left my body or the last invader left my soil, and there would simply be no compromise position.
