History was made today, when Nancy Pelosi gaveled the house to order and officially became the first woman and the first Italian American to hold the position of Speaker of the House. In the other chamber, history was made when Senator Reid became the first Mormon to head the majority in either house. I just want to take the opportunity to say I am watching my team every bit as closely as I watched the other side, and I will be screaming bloody murder if I think they have overstepped their mandate or are otherwise betraying my trust. I don't much care for hypocrites, and I dislike hypocrisy coming from my side even more than I hate it coming from theirs.
If anyone is waiting for the Democrats to mess up and then get a pass from me, they'll be waiting a while because that won't happen. I'll have no problem holding Democratic feet to the fire.
Every candidate I worked for, I put on notice during the campaign - You know how ruthless I am working for you? Now, imagine that I feel personally betrayed.
To the historic 110th Congress, I welcome you with open arms, and I'll be watching. Closely.
