It was announced today that the Army would issue apologies to the families of about 75 officers who were killed in action, who received letters encouraging their loved one to return to active duty.
The letters were mailed out to around 5100 Army officers who have recently left the service. Of those letters, about 75 went to the families of the deceased and another 200 were sent out to officers who were severely wounded and unable to return to service.
"Army personnel officials are contacting those officers' families now to personally apologize for erroneously sending the letters," the Army said in a brief news release issued Friday night.The Army did not offer any clue as to how the grievous error was uncovered. The Army insists that the database normally used for such correspondence with former officers had been "thoroughly reviewed" to remove the names of wounded or dead soldiers. I mean, can you even believe this??? Recruiting letters to the deceased. It's like that time it was revealed the Secretary of Defense was using a signature machine to sign the letters to the families of the deceased. Who can ask anyone to fight and possibly die for this feckless bunch?
