How many times has aWol stood before the American people and stubbornly insisted that the commanders had received "everything they have asked for."
Bullshit. I know it, you know it and the American people know it. And the Generals this administration has dismissed are speaking up and speaking out. "Many of us routinely asked for more troops, " said Retired Major General John R.S. Batiste. This claim runs counter aWols stubborn insistence that the military has received everything it has asked for.
"There simply aren't enough troops there to accomplish the task." Batiste went on, "It's a shell game we're playing in Iraq, and we've been doing it since Day 1. And we're still doing it today."
Batiste has called for the resignation of Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld. His comments on Monday were made at a special hearing called by Democratic senators as part of what they hope will be an initiative by the senate to take over the oversight of the war effort.
Let's do more than scratch the surface of the Generals' statements. Generals who do not play politics are not Generals. They are Captains and Majors.
When Generals speak up and take the Chief Executive to task, when they call him a liar and his Secretary of Defense incompetent, the private conversations the brass is having among themselves must indeed be something that would be interesting to overhear. In other words, what is said in public is redacted for content. But I have heard enough conversations at the O club that I can fill in the blanks.
And knowing what I know, first hand, I can honestly say that this president is a clueless moron and a feckless thug. He is a jingoistic jackass and if he isn't brought to heel by the electorate come November 7th, then we are fucked.
Those who vote for the status quo will be getting the government they deserve.
But what about the rest of us?
