Oh, it is a glorious day! Phred Phucking Phelps, the antithesis of all that is good and righteous, has backed down for the first time since I first crossed his path and held my ground and won my standoff as I exited the very first funeral he picketed! (The decedent was Laurent Langlois, a gay classmate of mine at Wichita State University the first time I lived in Wichita in the ‘80’s. We were reassigned to McConnell less than six months before he died of AIDS.)
As a result of this experience, I have carried a white-hot torch of scorn and derision for the Phelps Phuckheads for 15 years, and, I might add, it has generated more light than heat. I have actively opposed them. Where they have protested, I have organized counter-protests, comprised of crowds who show up in greater number and of protesters obviously from a deeper part of the gene pool.
I have mass e-mailed American Legion members I know to possess motorcycles, A AL branches across those states to inform them of funerals in Missouri, Kansas, Nebraska, and Iowa so the American Legion Riders could be there to provide a buffer between grieving families of soldiers who fell in battle and those who celebrate their deaths with jubilation while kicking an American flag like a soccer ball. (I’m against a flag-burning amendment, but I can still be offended by the actions of these phools.)
Well, sweet victory! This from the Associated Press:
A small Kansas church known for it’s anti-gay protests said Wednesday that it has stopped picketing for now at soldiers funerals with new laws against the practice.
“We’re not going to get arrested. We obey the law.” Said a spokesperson.
That’s the courage of the founders of the church in action! Their Jesus who hung on a cross in defiance of the law of the land must be just so proud! In my jaundiced eye, it brands these knuckle-dragging troglodytes to be the cowards I have always suspected (known) them to be.
They, too, make me hope sometimes that I’m wrong about the whole god-heaven-hell thing. I would love to see these assholes compete in an Olympic aquatic events in a lake of fire.
