Enjoy Your 8X8's, You Smarmy, Predatory **cks

Remember just yesterday, when I was venting my spleen and getting exercised about tweekers? You know, and if you don’t know scroll down a bit because it’s still on the front page. I am of the unwavering opinion that the only good tweeker is a dead tweeker. Well, I will settle for an incarcerated tweeker.

And Wednesday, during the wee hours of the night, that desire was fulfilled 40-fold when a seven-month undercover investigation across the state line in KCK culminated with the service of approximately 200 no-knock warrants, the arrest of at least 40 people, all but four of whom face federal prison (there is no parole with the feds - every single solitary day is served), and the confiscation of six pounds of methamphetamine. In addition, amounts of marijuana and cocaine were confiscated, along with about $120,000 cash.

But six pounds of tweek is a phenomenal amount, enough to wire a hell of a lot of people for a long, long time. I’m no fan of the war on drugs – I think it is the epitome of pounding sand (read money) down a rathole. Supply and demand, where demand dictates supply, rules the underground economy too. It ain't like economic rules don't apply when suddenly the product distributed is illicit. I am non-plussed that politicians and moral absolutists just don’t get that fact.

Then something like this, a stone’s throw from my current home, with many of the busts taking place less than a mile from where my children graduated high school, and I waffle…

To the DEA agents and Wyandotte County Unified Government officers who participated in Wednesday’s sweep: Hell of a job guys. Got an encore planned?

(And an aside – I got wind of this operation about 18 hours before it went down – never mind how or from whom. I am just glad that, for the first time in over a quarter century of hearing like rumors, one finally proved out.)
