Attorney General Nixon to Challenge Blunt in 2008

Ladies and Gentlemen! We have a challenger! Attorney General Jay Nixon filed paperwork with the Missouri Ethics Commission this morning, ammending his fundraising committee, Friends of Nixon. Previous paperwork filed with the commission indicated he would seek reelection to the AG post. Today, he indicated he would be seeking the office of Governor.

I knew he was going to run. His little stunt with the inmate abortion fiasco was a political ploy to garner him support among the pro-life crowd in farm country that has been hurt by Matt Blunt's cuts to social programs. Yeah, his little gamble pissed a lot of us in his own party off, but at least we understand why he felt compelled to do what he did. And it isn't like I'm going to vote for Blunt because I got steamed at a politician for making a political play.

Matt Blunt is currently polling behind only George Bush. He has about a 35% approval rating and a statehouse that is turning on him the way the national house is turning on Bush. (Pass the popcorn.) It's starting to look like a feeding frenzy is about to commence.

Then there is the possibility that the Governor's father, acting House Majority Leader Roy Blunt, funnelled money to his campaign for Secretary of State in 2000, and that he may be dragged into the DeLay fiasco because of this. The Abramoff scandal is inching closer to the Blunts minute by minute. Maybe we can get rid of the whole lot of them and send them back to Springfield where they belong, and apparently where Melanie would prefer to be anyway.

The state could save a lot on fuel and State Trooper overtime if that six-Suburban convoy didn't have to travel from Springfield to Jeff City twice every day. If only the Governor's Mansion were just good enough for Melanie Blunt! But no, not our pedantic little princess of a First Lady. These kids are just an embarassment, and they need to go back to finishing school.
