What will you do the first time you walk out of Starbuck's and see a young man missing a limb, obviously scarred, holding a sign that reads "Homeless, Hungry, Iraq War Vet. Please Help." Will you pretend you don't see him as you walk on by to your SUV, with the yellow "Support our Troops" ribbon on the tailgate?
Maybe you won't...The first time. But he will be the first of many, and eventually you will. It will be a problem as intractible as the homeless Viet Nam vets of the eighties and nineties. And we as a nation, will probably do no more right by them than we did the generation before, who fought our ill-advised war and were then tossed aside. We owed them better than that.
What will you do this time?
