Gerald Ford has passed away, after a year of failing health. He had battled pneumonia last winter, and had been hospitalized for heart ailments twice this year. He was the oldest living president in our history.
President Ford is the only president in America's history to achive the office through extra-electoral means. He stepped into the gap and began the thankless, arduous task of picking up the tattered remnants of the presidency after the abuses of the Nixon administration. He served just under two and a half years, losing election to Jimmy Carter in 1976.
He was a trustworthy man at a time the nation desperately needed one, and for that the nation should be eternally grateful.
