This ugly little bit of invective has been getting under my skin for a while now. Since no one else is pointing out the obvious, I will take the serve.
As a political soundbite, "Cut and Run" plays well. But it has no bearing on the situation we currently face.
Military personnel know that the only time you get to cut and run is when a pitched battle is going badly and falling back is the only hope for survival.
The situation in Iraq is an occupation. Occupiers don't even have the "cut and run" option available to them. However, occupiers always withdraw, eventually. Period.
It may involve a Prince steaming out of port in the royal yacht; or it may be something like the Brits limping out of Iraq in 1958 after forty years of occupation. They never got a handle on the Mess in Mesopotamia either, and they were much better at that empire thing than the U.S. ever thought about being.
